Sospiri bridge in Venice

Among our latest Murano glass creations, Sospiri stands out. This wonderful Murano glass mirror is entirely handmade by master craftsmen with the cold engraving technique.

In the middle, the mirror has been further embellished by our flower designers with a graceful arrangement of stabilised roses, flowers and lichen, intended to last through years without any care.

Our artistic creations are inspired by art and nature of our homeland, the Riviera del Brenta and Venice, places full of history and traditions.

With Sospiri vegetal mirror, we decided to honour the Bridge of Sighs in Venice (Ponte dei Sospiri in italian) that links the Doge’s Palace to the New Prisons.

STORY AND LORE

At the end of the XVI century, the Republic of Venice decided to build a new prison beyond the Rio di Palazzo. It was a choice made out of necessity: the old prison inside of the Doge’s Palace was unsafe and too small.

As a consequence, he building of a bridge that linked the Palace to the New Prisons became unavoidable. At the beginning of the XVII century, the project by Antonio Contino was approved and the construction works started by the will of the Doge Marino Grimani.

Project designed by Contino imposed an aery, quick and safe passage to link the first floor of the Doge’s Palace to the second floor of the New Prisons, in order to avoid escape attempts by the prisoners.

The enclosed bridge was built according to the Baroque style, made of white limestone and decorated on the external surfaces with the Doge Grimani’s emblem. Two small stone windows with stone bars allowed to the prisoners the latest, narrow view of the city, with the Ponte della Paglia and San Servolo Island on one side and the back side of the Doge’s Palace and Ponte della Canonica on the other.

The name “Bridge of Sighs” seems to result from the suggestion that prisoners would sigh at their final view of beautiful Venice through the window before being taken down to their cells.

Tradition, history and charm of the grape harvest

September: the magic harvest period. This tradition of ancient origins is without a doubt one of the most common in Italy: with more or less modern methods every year, exactly on this time, grape harvest starts and later the production of delicious wines, too.

Lately, new technologies have influenced a lot also harvesting techniques, making it a faster, easier and more efficient work. However, there are still small family businesses that prefer to pass on our grandparents’ techniques, which are harder but can give incomparable satisfactions.

In this way, in fact, harvest represents the results of an entire year of hard work and sacrifice, and it becomes a real family event.

It seems that harvest in Italy has its origin from Greeks, who took their traditions in the mainland’s south.

The Romans were wine lovers instead, also famous among medieval monasteries and during Renaissance. In the last years wine is one of the most appreciated italian products at international level, because of its fine taste but also its quality and tradition that has been created behind every bottle.

Enjoying a glass of wine in company can be even more pleasant if presented with elegance and sophistication: Vetro da Amare creates a beautiful decorative bottle cap in Murano glass, hand-worked in every detail.

There are various shapes and colours, and in some cases (such as in the Diedo cap) they are also accompanied by a lovely stabilized rose.

This artistic creation is one of a kind and undoubtedly contributes to make your table particular and elegant, or the table of a friend who loves good wine and the unique Italian tradition.

An enchantment of eternal beauty.

It is to our great satisfaction at Vetro da Amare that we are able to combine our precious glass creations with enchanting floral arrangements, embellished with dedication and devotion, by our skilled flower designers.

Among all the flowers, we chose the queen: it is the rose, the flower that expresses our emotions thanks to the colours of its petals.

The spell of a fairy seems to preserve the beauty of Vetro da Amare’s roses: it is stabilisation, a process that, like an elixir of eternal youth, preserve the appearance of a freshly-cut flower, preventing them form withering.

The more the roses will be kept carefully, the longer their spell will last.

The maintenance of stabilised roses is pretty simple but requires some care: since stabilised roses are full-fledged natural, it is unavoidable that the passing of time will affect their beauty.

Vetro da Amare is happy to advice you on how preserve your roses from the damages of time, thanks to the skill and professional care that only thirty years in the business can provide.

Do not water.

The normal maintenance of a rose requires watering.

A fundamental rule for plants but not recommended for stabilised roses: the process that they have undergone makes water completely unnecessary.

Furthermore, water would damage the very composition of your artwork.

Keep away from direct sunlight

Sunlight is one of the most important sources of energy and nourishment for plants and trees.

Again, stabilised roses are an exception: the direct sunlight against their silky and delicate petals might accelerate the aging process and ruin them irreversibly.

Keep them indoors.

Our artworks represent a perfect choice for classy events and ceremonies.

However, a long stay under the sun and under severe temperatures might ruin your beautiful arrangement.

Keep them in a dry environment

An extremely wet environment is harmful for stabilised roses.

Our advice is to keep the roses away from environments where humidity is easier to concentrate.

The delicate charm of roses enhances the perfect Murano glass creations, molded in the furnaces by the skilled master glassmakers, depositary of a millenary art.

Gold decorations: a tale of the most authentic art.

Vetro da Amare’s gold decorations are the result of a gifted artist who, with talent and devotion, embellishes Murano glass items, communicating emotions.

Gold decorations, jewel in the crown of  Vetro da Amare, are entrusted to the skilled hands of a master decorator.

The experience, talent and passion of this artisan contribute to the creation of breathtakingly dedications and decorations.

Each step of the creative magic is achieved with passion and the utmost attention: with deft, sinuous movements, the master writes on the chosen item the words of a dedication, that speak of love and gratitude.

For this specific step, the most suitable technique is the liquid 24 carat gold: transformed into a liquid state, the gold, bend to the master’s will, tell a precious story, like in the graceful Murano glass Hearts.

With meticulous and accurate movements, the artisan complete every detail of the decoration, with the same devotion dedicated to a masterpiece.

For the decoration of the Bucentaur, an art glass creation which illustrates a superb representation of the Venetian Republic’s state barge, the master uses fusible enamels fired into the “muffola” furnace (“mufoea” in venetian dialect), once the creation is done, and 24 carat Gold leaf.

Vetro da Amare’s gold decorations require precise, refined and secrets techniques that only a skillful and expert artisan, holder of a centuries-old knowledge, can take full advantage, with a craftsmanship worthy of an authentic work of art.

Vetro da Amare’s decorative art represents only one of the various main strengths that make these creations unique: to know more about our strenghts, read the articles about stabilised roses and Murano glass production.

When security embraces elegance: the elegant customized packaging of Vetro da Amare

An artwork demands an appropriate package: beautiful and, above all, safe and strong.

However, when it comes to shipping, it is not easy to find the perfect solution that guarantees both of these features.

Because of the exceptional fragility of Murano glass and stabilised roses, Vetro da Amare studied the perfect solution to send your purchase in total security and elegance.

What are the advantages of our packages?

Safety

Our packages have been developed and tested in order to guarantee a safe shipment to your purchase.

Each box features twin protective layers: first, the product is encased in a custom-formed polystyrene shell, which holds the arrangement in place; secondly, this shell itself is placed in a triple-wall cardboard box and packed with more polystyrene.

This solution does not damage the roses.

The beauty

We decided to stand out from the crowd not just for the value and the originality of the products but for the details too.

One of these is the look of our packaging. A high quality item can’t be delivered covered by sheets of newspaper or in a polystyrene box.

Our package resembles the fancy box of an engagement ring, entirely covered by velvet.

A pleasant memory

Once the purchase is received, the packaging is quickly forgetten.

With our boxes, this won’t happen for sure.

As soon as you will receive your order, you will be amazed by the beauty of both the product and the box.

Our story on “Il Gazzettino”

Vetro da Amare is pleased to share in its magazine an article dedicated to its founder, Massimo Borella, and his personal journey.

The article was published on the local section of “Il Gazzettino”, italian newspaper.

He closed the shop and goes to the web: now he sells flowers allover the world.

E-commerce for the market of the future. A florist from Fiesso d’Artico transforms his business into e-commerce, the new trend, and he has success.

Massimo Borella, 53, opened a flower shop in town in 1992.

Business at an early stage had been pretty good: in a few years he had employed two people.

However, Borella has always considered to renew himself.

Always interested in new trends, he began to think about the possibilities of e-commerce, also inspired by his customers.

In 2014 he decided to invest in a new project by gathering the skills of some venetian professionals and artisans: master glassmakers, engravers, decoratores and frame-makers.

This collaboration has led to the creation of unique objects embellished with flowers, very often crafted according to the wishes of special customers.

Unique, refined pieces very popular in some foreign markets: Asian countries and Russia, but also some shops in Venice, turned out to be very interested.

Borella has closed his shop a couple of years ago, substituting it with a showroom, and he has begun the new adventure on the web.

To ship its floral jewels in every part of the world, he has created an appropriate packaging, that looks like a jewelry box.

“Years ago I had collaborated with a Tuscan vase manufacturer – says Massimo – the idea of making a quality product, completed in all its parts, has always been part of my way of thinking.

The market has changed, so as the flower culture: I see a bright perspective in e-commerce.”

Among the projects, there is participation in a fair in Paris.

The idea is to always create new products: in the pipeline there is already the idea of using ferrous materials for his compositions, always made in Venice.

“In the area we have very prepared professionals – concludes Borella – and they deserve prestige.

They have all the skills to launch the Made in Italy in a different way.”

Stabilized roses: an eternal youth

Charming and delicate, stabilised roses are refined flowers that Vetro da Amare’s craftsmen, masters in floral art, chose to combine with the most incredible Murano glass artistic creations.

The choice fell upon this particular type of roses because of the many benefits they allow in the decoration.

Stabilisation. An elixir of eternal youth

Stabilisation is a process that preserves the rose’s original beauty for several years.

The roses are picked by hand in South America in the moment of their maximum splendour. Stabilisation will crystallize their beauty forever, making them eternally young:

by substituting the plant’s natural fluids with glycerin, the process preserves the roses for more than an year, guaranteeing freshness and softness of a natural flower.

Many colours for many desires

Like the spell of a good fairy, the stabilisation prevents stabilised roses from withering, keeping their beauty intact through the years.

The process is well liked by professionals, not just because of the natural look of the flower: the rose, devoid of its natural pigments after the chemical process, can be coloured with different colours.

Vetro da Amare guarantees the customization of the roses among a wide range of almost twenty different colours: saffron yellow, ivory, red, violet, sapphire blue, black…the list is endless.

The skilled artisans craft the prettiest arrangements according to their customers’ desires: solid coloured arrangements, multicoloured arrangements…there is no limits to creativity.
